What's happening at Savings Revolution?

Big big thanks to the readers who have written to ask, What’s happening at Savings Revolution? One even wrote and asked, “Are you okay?”

Yes, we’re very okay, and thank you for your concern. The concern is engendered simply by the extremely low level of activity on the site. Almost no new posts for months.

Here’s why: For a long time, we’ve been aware that the site is out of date. A web designer said “looks like 2007”. That hurts, but we know it’s true. Worse than that, the inner workings of the site are just not adapted to today’s needs. Modern websites automatically adjust to the sort of screen they are being viewed on: if you have a computer, it fills the screen edge to edge with columns, menus and whatever. But if you are viewing on a phone, it condenses things, gives a single column, and doesn’t waste screen space with a lot of menus: instead it hides the menus behind a button labeled, appropriately, “menu”. This version of the site does none of that, and I know from my own experience how hard it is to access on a phone or tablet.

Finally, we know that it is time to do some housecleaning: with four hundred blog entries, and a hundred documents to consult, it has become difficult to find what you need, or separate important information from old information, and know which articles are worth reading.

So, we’ve been working on a new version of Savings Revolution for months. (We thought it would take a couple of weeks - that was SO wrong.) It will launch soon. You will find (we trust) that it looks good (the new logo is above). It will be designed to work well on a mobile device. And it won’t overwhelm you with too many choices: information will be curated, which means we’ll try to direct you to the most useful stuff - we might make mistakes sometimes on deciding what is best, but that shouldn’t deter you. We’ll be right most of the time, and we always urge readers to look around and triangulate everything anyway

So, that’s what’s happening and again - if you wrote to ask, we’re very grateful. Just stand by: we’ll be going to flip over to the new site soon, and folks on our mailing list will be the first to know.
